Following a scientific procedure for testing the properties of substances – to which De Marchi was introduced by Precious Siaw Kyeremeh – the work presents a perspective entrusted to the senses.

Sixteen wooden Alstonia sticks are painted with cashew nut shells liquid, which has preservative properties. The modularity of scientific technique and minimalist art is metaphorically and literally affected. The painted portion of wood decreases – from full coverage, at one end, to a small central portion, at the other – reproducing the shape of the xylophone, a traditional Ghanaian wooden musical instrument. The wood buried in early June 2023 in the forest of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology campus, next to a termite mound, is set up for insect appreciation. Until September of the same year, a weekly performative observation by humans follows its progress. According to the consumption of the wooden sticks, which also included eight pieces of Ceiba as a control, their weights, and consequently the sounds, change from homogeneous to modulated.
