The tiles freeze the performative act of walking as a gesture of care for the Earth, printing by stepping on the soil the text kakra kakra that in Twi (the Ghanaian main indigenous language) means slowly slowly. Echoing Frantz Fanon, with “Kakra Kakra”, a daily practice for the artist, become a performance as a metaphor for going ahead with respect.

As part of the art residency in Wa at the Nubuke Foundation, the artwork has been shaped in local clay, producing a series of tiles set up directly on the soil along the path that conduces to the garden of pigments.

The text has been written alongside Twi, in Dagare (a language from northern Ghana), both in Latin and Braille characters.

The artwork was made in collaboration with Patrick Suglo, who shared his know-how and skills in preparing the soil to obtain the clay, then modelling it, and finally firing the tiles.
