2018, paper, pencil, marker, eraser, 90 x 180 cm; video, colours, 2’45”; performance
Performer: Delger Batbekh, Emanuele Enria, Gabriela Santos, Maman Lamin Sidi
The artwork focuses on the reflection inherent in the relationship between nature and culture, as well as the related politico-economic and social impositions. During the performance, national borders are erased, leaving only the land surface and the remnants of the rubbers visible to the audience.
Ecumente Adele, 2018, Davide Paludetto Gallery, Torino (Italy), curated by Francesca Comisso
“Ecumene Adele” is based on the act of erasing to reject the discrimination that obstructs the free movement of people. Removing from the planisphere the traces of borders imposed over centuries to divide nations is, at the same time, assertive and poetic. Four people, two women and two men, from countries located on the outer limits of the cardinal axes, conduct a secular liturgy, which is political in nature and non-partisan. The title refers to the earliest knowledge (mentioned by Michel Serres as Adelo) and the world (the only surfaced lands: the Ecumene). During the opening, the performative act inhabited the space of the gallery, which before was empty, spatializing the artwork with an installation including a drawing on paper, the remnants of the rubbers – proof and celebration of the accomplished act – and a video.
