The carpet becomes a meeting place for distant fraternal affections and recent friendships, as well as shared practices.
The construction of a proximity, forcing real distance, is at the core of “Carpet” starting from a place belonging to childhood time: a house with rooms in summer and in winter, founded on time instead of space. Today – with the aim to connect fraternal affection in everyday life, of sisters that have been living in distant countries and in non-coinciding seasons – that place turn in the building of a common dwelling through a daily procedure. For a year, had been entered daily in a journal data regarding the weather registered in the two countries. Then they had been transformed, according to established codes, into coloured yarns, which, put together two by two, become a common route again, warped into the weaving of the carpet.
The artwork had been made thanks to the convergence of positive factors: the meeting of an old friend became weaver and new friends arriving from different African countries, carrying with them related know-how.
